Ian McClelland


Ian specialises in humanitarian innovation and enabling transformational impact through radical shifts in how public organisations conceive, design, and evaluate their work. He has over 15 years of experience in global development and humanitarian aid organisations.

Ian started his career in communications, supporting research, policy, and public campaigns for organisations including Oxfam, Bond, and the University of Oxford’s Refugee Studies Centre. For the last 10 years his work has focused on supporting innovation through grant-making, partnerships, and design-led approaches with Elrha’s Humanitarian Innovation Fund and Save the Children International.

During this time Ian has managed multi-million pound funds and multi-country partnerships, working with teams around the world on challenges ranging from gender-based violence to earthquake resilience and response. Ian has a BSc in Disaster Management and Technology and an MSc in Globalization and Development, and he is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and Commerce.
